From Chaos to Calm: How I Organized My Pantry...
How I Turned It Into My Happy Place
Over the years, I’ve lived in homes with all kinds of kitchens—most of them on the smaller side. That meant I had to get creative with organization. Two things made the biggest difference:
Putting items into labeled containers.
Creating a designated spot for “extras.”
When I moved into my new house and finally had a walk-in pantry, I went all in. I bought matching glass containers from IKEA, transferred everything over, and wow—game changer. Suddenly, cooking felt easier, more fun, and even inspiring. I can see exactly what I have at a glance, which makes it simple to plan meals and avoid wasting money on duplicates. No more discovering three bags of rice hidden in the back (been there, done that, lol).
Here’s the best part—you don’t need fancy matching sets to get started. Use what you’ve got: mason jars, old glass jars, or even inexpensive containers from the dollar store. The key is taking a couple of hours to transfer your ingredients into containers and add a label (a label maker works, but masking tape and a marker do the job too). Once everything’s in its place, you just refill as needed. Decide to switch from jasmine rice to basmati rice? Take off the label, refill and label again. Easy peasy.
The other secret? Always have a spot for extras. When I first organized, I realized I had multiple bags of flour. If it didn’t fit into the main container, I put the rest in a specific “extras” area. That way, I know where to check before buying more.
So, pick a Saturday afternoon and give your pantry or cabinets a reset. It might sound small, but trust me—it’s the kind of spark that makes you look forward to your next meal.
