Thanksgiving Like a Private Chef...
Secrets to a Stress-Free Feast
Now that November’s here, it’s officially time to start thinking about Thanksgiving. Whether you’re hosting the whole meal or just contributing a few key dishes, it pays to think like a chef. Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t have to be chaotic—organization is your secret weapon.
Start by mapping out your ideal menu: write down every dish you want on the table, from appetizers to desserts. Once you’ve got that list, decide whether to assign dishes to guests or let them choose what to bring—but don’t leave it up to chance. One year, my cousin told everyone to “just bring something,” and we ended up with five green bean casseroles and not a single mashed potato in sight!
Use the spreadsheet I’ve included to get everything in order. Fill in each section (I’ve shared an example of how I like to organize mine) so you can see what can be prepped ahead of time and what needs to be cooked the day of. It’s also a great way to plan oven space and avoid last-minute surprises. Once your spreadsheet is set, make your grocery list and schedule out your prep for the days leading up to Thanksgiving.
The more organized you are now, the more you’ll actually get to enjoy the day—laughing, eating, and being thankful—instead of running around the kitchen in a panic. Remember, Thanksgiving is about family, friends, and gratitude, not perfection. So use the spreadsheet, take a deep breath, and enjoy the feast!
